Hi, my name is Ted…. well…. Theodore, but only my mother calls me that.
As the host of the Motorcycle Men Podcast I get to use my voice, a lot. What I don’t get to do is get detailed with my thoughts on the show. It would likely cast my listeners into the desire to drive themselves into a bridge abutment. So I spare them. A blog would be my only hope.
But here’s the problem…..
I have written four screenplays, none published. One came close until the agent handling the script was investigated for illegal business practices and shut down. I have written four books of which only one is done, kinda sorta and the others are waiting on inspiration. I have written over 400 songs, 11 made it to a CD in 2013 called “FLY“, one, sadly, was made into a dance single in 1985, but we won’t talk about that. I have created two comic strips, one nearly got published and the original art work was lost in a house fire, the other is lost to the inside of my skull. I have done several oil paintings and they to were lost in the same house fire. I was the lead singer and guitar player in a John Mellencamp Tribute Band called Human Wheels which was formed in 2000. I left the band in September 2020 after 20 years at the helm.
I have kept a journal, on and off, since 1989.
All of this may tell you that I am a tad scatterbrained and have no focus and….. well… you may be right. As you will discover, I am wordy… I like to be wordy… but that is only because I like words. I have things to say and written words are the best way for me to convey those things. I honestly and openly admit I am not the brightest piece of chrome on the showroom floor. I also admit that I my intelligence has waned over the years and I am not as articulate as I would like to be. That being said, I find it ironic that I would elect to do a podcast on a topic that requires me to be both intelligent and articulate. But I stumble along regardless.
My motorcycle life started at the age of 13 when my father took my brother and I to a friends house and we learned to ride dirt bikes for the first time. At 18, while in the Navy, I bought my first motorcycle. A 1976 Suzuki TC-125. It ran but it needed work and I didn’t know the first thing about wrenching on bikes. In 1984, I got my motorcycle endorsement. From 1984 to 2004 I dreamed, wished, desired and was jonesing for a Harley Davidson Sportster. In 2004 it finally happened. I bartered my time and worked for free part-time for 18 months to get a 1994 HD Sportster XL883. Man I loved that bike. In 2014 an opportunity knocked and I picked up a 2003 HD Heritage Softail Classic 100th Anniversary in Silver and Black. I still have it and I love it. I sold the Sportster in 2015 and to this day I wish I never did. As a result, I have my eye on a new HD Sportster Roadster. Then I’ll stop, unless if I hit the lottery, then there will be more.
I always rode a bicycle, but I never got serious about it until 1994. First it was mountain biking and then I switched over to road cycling after I read an article in Bicycling Magazine about the Race Across America. I still have that issue. Several bikes later I think I’m done buying bicycles.
This blog will take you on a tour of my brain while on two wheels. Be it the Harley or a mountain bike or my road bike. I’ll tell you about what I see, who I meet and where I go.
….and off we go.
That’s a fine looking HD you have there! I spend many of my days on two wheels of some description, road bike, mountain bike, motorbike. It’s a great place to be! 🙂

There is no better moment in a persons day than when we’re atop our wheels.
